Hoima RRH Director Calls for Promotion of Universal Health Care

Sophia Namasope, the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital Director hash underscored the need to promote universal health care.

Speaking at a one-day free health camp organized by CNOOC in partnership with China medical team in the Kingfisher Project Area in Kyangwali sub county,Kikuube district, Namasopo says many people are suffering with preventable diseases.

She notes that Bunyoro region has two districts hosting refugee camps which puts a burden on the health care resource. She underscored the need for the community to go for routine medical check up to be able to detect diseases earlier.

Namasopo adds that maternal and neonatal mortality are very high in the country calling for concerted efforts to reduce the numbers. Uganda is one of the countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa with a very high maternal mortality ratio estimated at 336 deaths per 100,000 live births.

The Chairman LC1 Nsonga landing site commended CNOOC for promoting good health among the community.

He notes that apart from the health camp, the oil company recently built a water project in the area which is helping them to get clean water.

Vincent Opio, the Kikuube district vice chairman says the district is facing some gaps in the health sector.

He notes that different landing sites are prone to Cholera but with the continued sensitization of the community on issues regarding to hygiene and sanitation by CNOOC, the cases have reduced.

CNOOC vice president Wang Jufeng says the medical camp is one the company’s efforts in promoting health and wellbeing of the community.

The camp held Tuesday provided free diagnosis, treatment and prescription of drugs for ailments in the community.
