Speeding Car Knocks Two Children Dead in Kikuube

Shock engulfed residents of Mairirwe in Buhimba sub-county, in Kikuube district after a speeding taxi knocked two children dead.

The deceased children have been identified as Bridget Atuhairwe aged nine and her elder brother Trevor Murungi aged 14 all children of one Brown a driver from Hoima Taxi Park.

According to the Mairirwe LCI chairman Amon Byamukama, the accident occurred this morning at around 7am after the driver of taxi registration number UBA 463G lost control as he negotiated a conner and knocked the children who were on a bicycle.

He says the deceased had been sent to Mairirwe trading center to clear the bush around their father’s house.

Julius Hakiiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirms the accident adding that the driver whose identity has not been established escaped abandoning the vehicle at the scene of accident.

He noted that taxi was towered and taken to Kikuube police station where it being kept while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kikuube health centre IV for a postmortem before they were handed over to the family for burial.
