Police in the Albertine region are searching for unknown assailants who strangled a businessman to death and dumped his lifeless body in Lake Albert. The deceased, identified as Sam Oyergiu Kadogo, 31, was a businessman from Hoima landing site in Rwentale parish, Buseruka sub-county in Hoima district.

Kadogo disappeared on Thursday night last week after receiving a phone call from an unidentified person while watching a football match with his colleagues.

He did not return to watch the game, and his family and friends did not hear from him as his phone went off.

The family later alerted the office of the area LCI chairperson about Kadogo’s mysterious disappearance from home.

Franco Michan, the Hoimo landing site LCI chairperson, said they searched for Kadogo but to no avail. On Sunday morning, residents spotted an object floating on the lake, and local fishermen discovered a decomposing body wrapped in a polythene bag.

Upon identification, it was discovered that the body was Kadogo’s. The body had bruises on the neck, and both legs and hands were found tied with ropes, indicating that the assailants might have murdered the victim before dumping the body into the lake.

Jarieko Oruke, a fisherman and a resident of the Hoima landing site, said they were shocked and living in fear following the incident. Fred Sunday, also a resident, called for thorough police investigations to establish the motive behind the killing.

Geoffrey Kumakech, the LCV councilor for Buseruka sub-county, condemned the killing’s manner.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying investigations have commenced, and the hunt for the assailants is on. Police have handed over the body to the relatives for burial arrangements after a postmortem was conducted.

Hakiza appealed to the public to provide crucial information that could lead to the arrest and detention of the suspects for justice to prevail.
