Police in Buliisa are searching for suspected armed robbers who robbed a businesswoman of 2.5 million Shillings in Watembo cell, Butiaba town council. The three robbers, armed with a gun, raided the home of Sarah Kayeny (31) in the early hours of Monday morning, around 1:30 am.
They disguised themselves as clients who had come to buy cassava flour and Kayeny opened her door for them. Upon opening the door, they pointed the gun at her and demanded that she surrender all the money she had in her possession.
Kayeny gave them the 2.5 million Shillings she had, and the robbers tied her legs and hands with ropes before fleeing to an unknown destination, threatening to kill her if she made any noise.
Kayeny was alone in her house when the robbers broke in, and after they left, she raised an alarm that attracted area residents. Francis Okumu, a resident, said they responded to the victim’s alarm and found her with her legs and hands tied with ropes.
Musa Asaba, the LCIII Chairperson for the Butiaba sub-county, said that area residents are living in fear following the attack by the armed robbers. He urged security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and guarantee the safety of area residents.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, said that investigations are ongoing, and a team of flying squad officers has been dispatched to track the suspected robbers. Armed robberies are becoming rampant in the Albertine region, causing panic among area residents.
