Man Kills Wife Over Food in Kakumiro

Police in Kakumiro district is holding a man in his 50 for allegedly killing his wife over food.

The incident occurred in Kyema village, Kikoora parish in Kikoora sub county, Kakumiro district.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says the suspect James Rutimbuka on Saturday at around 8pm, went back to his home while drunk and asked his wife who was having dinner with their children whether they will serve him food as well.

He notes that the man went to the bedroom and after a few minutes later came back to where the wife was seated and kicked her around the waist.

Hakiza adds that the woman reported the matter to Kikoora police post at night and later sought treatment from a nearby health facility since she was feeling pain.

It is alleged that the woman while heading back from the facility became weak and fell on the ground but was rescued by her children who rushed her back to the facility but was referred to Kakindo health centre IV where she breathed her last on Sunday morning.

According to police, the man on noticing that the wife had died decided to commit suicide by taking poison but was rescued by residents who rushed him to Kakindo Health Centre IV where he is receiving treatment under security watch.

Hakiza says the suspect will be charged with murder.
