Kikuube district security committee has heavily deployed police and Uganda Peoples Defense Forces- UPDF officers at the contested land in Mandwiga village, Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube district as residents continue to fight over its ownership.

The land in question which measures over 3000 acres, registered under Nguse Ranchers Limited was acquired by government after the compensation of the landlords who include the Minister for Public Service Muruli Mukasa and the Late John Bahemuka among others using land Fund.

Last week, security led by Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime engaged over 500 people who had invaded on the land and evicted them.

However, just less than a week after the eviction,  another group invaded the land and started fighting with those whom security had forced to leave.

The groups had also started erecting makeshift structures and cultivating the land. Police on Tuesday rushed to the area and chased the groups off the land.

RDC Tumusiime says security was shocked on Monday when the groups  returned to the land despite having been ordered to leave the area.

He notes that this confusion has forced the district security committee to  deploy the joint security force to guard the land from being grabbed by the groups.
