Unknown Assailants have strangled a man in Kakumiro to death before dumping his  body in a maize plantation.

The deceased has been identified as Patrick Ngabirano 40, a resident of Busera village in Kihuuna parish in Kakindo sub county.

It is alleged that the assailants raided the home of their victim at unknown time on Wednesday night and strangled him to death and later dumped his lifeless body in a maize plantation in the same area.

Charles Kato Ssemuga, a resident explains that the deceased was last seen in the area on Wednesday evening at around 6p.m while in good health. He says area residents were shocked when they discovered the lifeless body of the deceased dumped in a maize plantation on Thursday morning. They later alerted police who rushed to the crime scene and picked the body.

Fred Komukama, also a resident, wants police to expedite investigations into the cause of the death so that the culprits can be apprehended and charged according.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Thursday that the body had bruises in the neck, an indication that the assailants could have strangled their victim before dumping his body in the maize plantation.

Hakiza says though a police sniffer dog was brought to the crime scene, it lost track after trying to trace for the victims for about 5km.

Later police picked the body that was conveyed to Kakindo health center IV mortuary where it is currently lying pending postmortem.

Hakiza has appealed to area residents to cooperate with the police by availing crucial information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects for justice to prevail.
