Three Arrested for Demolishing Houses of Hoima City Residents

Police in Hoima City is holding three people to help police with investigations after three houses were demolished over the weekend in Busiisi East Cell, Hoima East division in Hoima city.

Unknown assailants on Saturday night at around 2am stormed the area and demolished three permanent houses belonging to John Mugisa, Keturah Ategeka and Sam Abigaba.

The suspects have been identified as one Kabaruri, Joseph Arema and another who is yet to be identified all residents of Busiisi East.

The affected residents say they bought the plots of land some years ago from the children of the late Kafumu.

Mugisa and Abigaba says ever since they bought the land fives year ago, they had never engaged in any conflict with anybody adding that the motive of the people who razed down their houses that were under construction is not yet the known.

According to them, they were shocked on Saturday morning when their neighbors informed them how their houses had been demolished

They add that they bought the land knowing it was free of wrangles adding that the demolition of their houses has subjected them to a loss of over Sh100m.

Ategeka speaking with tears rolling down her cheeks says that she bought the plot in 2017 and she been cultivating the land without any contestation.

Ategeka whose house was on beam level, says she has lost hope of reconstructing her house.

Godfrey Mbabazi, the village chairman attributes the attack on the disagreement between the family members of late Kafumu.

He says that when Kafumu died, the children shared the land and after sold to different people but some family members were against the decision.

Ramadan Twinomujuni, the defiance secretary in central ward condemned the act.

He calls on security to investigate the matter to the conclusion to ensure the culprits are brought to book.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police mouthpiece confirms the arrest adding that the suspects were picked up to help police in their investigations adding that cause of the destruction of the houses is not yet known.
