Fishermen on Lake Albert in Hoima and Kikuube districts have appealed to the government to intervene into the continued attacks by Congolese militiamen since 2018.

Several Fishermen who operate on this Lake have been left jobless and poor as the armed robbers continue to attack and seize their fishing gear.

Shalom Elderphose, one of the victims of the attackers at Kaiso landing site in Buseruka sub-county Hoima district says that militiamen have turned robbery on the lake as a business venture.

Elderphose who lost 12 boat engines and other fishing gear worth over Sh200 million to suspected militia says they have been left helpless and poor since government has totally failed to end the continued attacks.

Robert Mujuni, the chairperson of the fishing community at Kaiso landing site says cross boarder meetings have been he several times but they are yet to yield any results.

The Hoima district resident commissioner Yosam Tumwebaze says government is doing everything it can to solve the crisis.
