COVID 19 patients under the home-based care in Hoima district are flouting the guidelines to curtail the spread of the pandemic.
The Hoima District Health Officer Dr. Lawrence Tumusiime says they are concerned that the failure to adhere to the set guidelines could escalate the spread of the virus in the communities.
According to Tumusiime, some patients under the home base care are reportedly leaving their homes and freely mixing with members of the community.
The Ministry of Health policy guidelines for home-based isolation and care stipulates that patients under this category have the responsibility to stay at home and away from other people to prevent the spread of the virus to others who might include family members, friends, and the community.
The policy further states that patients should be isolated in a separate room where the patient can recover without sharing immediate space with other household members, while they observe other standard operating procedures that include; constantly wearing a face mask, hand washing and observing social distancing.
Tumusiime notes that patients under home-based care should also be monitored regularly, advised and counselled to limit movements and stay home.
