A heated exchange has erupted between Buliisa District leaders and officials from China Railway Seventh Group Co. Ltd and the Ministry of Works and Transport over compensation for residents affected by the 47km Biiso-Masindi oil road.
The clash followed claims by district leaders that some affected residents had not been compensated, despite officials allegedly telling Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama that all compensation had been completed.
The Minister questioned the officials, who eventually acknowledged the outstanding compensation and promised to begin the process next month.
Residents also told the Minister that non-functional solar streetlights along the road had contributed to insecurity and increased road crashes.
