The Kikuube district security committee has this morning arrested three bar operators for operating before 3pm as per directive issued by the Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.
In an operation conducted in Buhimba Town, the security team led by the RDC Angalia Godwin zeroed down on JJ Bar in which three staff including the manager were arrested for operating as early as 8am which is against the government directive.
Angalia says this operation should serve as a warning to all bar owners and operators across the district noting that they are set to extend the operation to other areas like Kyangwali, Bugambe, Kabwoya among other sub counties and at the lake shores.
He says it is absurd they found some members of the community already drunk in the bars in morning but escaped to unknown destinations upon seeing the police officers.
The RDC has advised the locals to resort to productive activities in the morning hours as a way of empowering them economically instead of staying idle in bars and trading centres.
According to Minister Balaam in his earlier directive, local leaders were rallied to lead a campaign in discouraging early-morning alcohol consumption and work with security agencies and enforcement teams to ensure that bars and alcohol outlets do not operate in a manner that encourages people to spend their mornings drinking instead of working.
The Minister said the directive is intended to address idleness, family problems and rising crime associated with excessive alcohol consumption in communities, while promoting a productive and responsible population.
