Five out of 146 cells in Hoima City have not elected their next LCI Chairperson on Tuesday over various issues raised by both the voters and the candidates forcing the electoral commission to suspend the elections.
The cells are Kyarwabuyamba South cell in Hoima West division while Park cell, Kiryatete Lower cell, Ishaka Upper cell, and Lusaka Upper cell in Hoima East division.
The issues ranged from EC’s requirement of presenting National IDs to vote, use of non voters in the exercise, violence, incorrect registers among other issues.
In Lusaka Upper cell, the independent candidates Bright Bansingwa and Robert Mudas accused the camp of the NRM candidate Rapheal Kusemererwa of collaborating with other individuals to use non-voters to inflate the number of votes.
Mudas and Bansingwa revealed that their victory was blocked after new voter location slips emerged irregularly and were distributed to non-voters which forced them to reject the results.
Speaking to Spice FM in an interview, Obra Atamba, the City Returning officer revealed that they have set Friday July 31, 2026 as the new polling date in the five cells.
Atamba says they will use tomorrow July 29 to Thursday July 30 to make fresh registration while areas with no complaints on registers will maintain the old ones during the fresh elections.
Atamba noted that 33 cells have registered unopposed LCI chairpersons wih 14 in Hoima West division while 19 in Hoima East division.
Meanwhile the newly elected Chairpersons LCI like Ntaro Norman (Bank cell), Asaba Robert (Kihemba cell), Ruth Kabayaga (Kiryatete Upper cell)m Asiimwe Steven (Bujwaya cell), Mugume Amza Kisembo (Kiryatete West) have vowed to work together with other leaders to champion development of their Cells and also fight corruption to ensure effective service delivery.
They have commended their voters for the big turn up on the voting day and promised to support them through government programs.
