The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has described the late Kikuube LC V Chairperson, Peter Banura Araali, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on Saturday evening, as a “young, inspiring, and dedicated leader whom many of us relied on for guidance not only in Kikuube but across the Bunyoro subregion.”

“Araali was a keen mobilizer committed to improving the lives of his people—a remarkable life tragically cut short. My deepest sympathies go out to our elder Maj Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, the bereaved family, the people of Kikuube and Bunyoro, and all who knew him. May God comfort us all and grant his soul eternal peace,” she wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

According to the Albertine North and South Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza, the fatal incident occurred incident occurred in Butyamba Village (Butyamba IDP area), Kikuube Town Council, where the victim was reportedly knocked down by a speeding Toyota Hiace motor vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicate that Banura had stepped out of his vehicle and was engaging with local residents when a speeding taxi, reportedly en route to Fort Portal, veered into bystanders.
