The Acting Veterinary Officer for Hoima City, Ms. Oliva Musinguzi has raised concerns about the poor conditions at most butcheries in Hoima town.

During a monitoring exercise conducted around the City, Ms. Musinguzi noted that they discovered many butcheries lack proper facilities, including lack of tiled floors and failure to meet the required health standards like the dressing code for butchers.

The City’s Veterinary Office has now tasked butchery owners to improve their facilities to ensure food safety, warning that, the city will take action against butcheries that fail to meet the required standards.

Ms. Musinguzi also warned milk sellers to stop selling diluted milk, stating that many milk sellers are mixing milk with a lot of water making it unhealthy for consumption.

She says they will continue to work towards the protection of the public health and ensure that food vendors adhere to health standards urging residents to report any non-compliant butcheries or milk sellers to the authorities.
