Parents and leaders in Kidoma parish in Kiziranfumbi sub county, Kikuube district are pushing for a collective effort toward improving the declining education standards at Kihangi Primary school, a government school located in their area.

Information available reveals that the school which used to have an enrollment of 800 pupils, is now having only 180 pupils with a declining performance in the primary leaving examinations (PLE) over the years. In last year’s PLE alone, the school obtained zero first grades, 1 second grade, 6 third grades and 6 candidates were ungraded.

According to Mr. Deus Bashabomwe, the Vice Chairperson NRM Kiziranfumbi sub county and area councilor for Kidoma parish says the academic standards at the school especially the PLE performance is alarming saying they have embarked on a united front to ascertain the genesis of the problem and provide lasting solutions.

Among the first steps, Bashabomwe says they want to ensure they improve on the enrollment by getting the dropouts back in school through the help of the LC Chairpersons and the parents among other stakeholders.

He has also tasked the government to do more supervision of activities in government schools across the district if their performances is to improve.

Mr. Mugenyi Feliciano, the Chairman Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Kihangi Primary school says they have resolved to also motivate the teachers to worker harder for better performance being supported by the parents and other stakeholders.
