Police in Hoima City has commended the efforts by volunteers at the repainted Zebra Crossings along several streets in Hoima City in guiding motorists and pedestrians which police say are contributing to responsible road use.
According to SP Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine south region police spokesperson accidents have become rampant nowadays and mostly caused by reckless drivers and riders, overloading, driving vehicles in a dangerous mechanical condition (DMCs) among others.
Hakiiza says there are a number of stubborn drivers and riders who do not show respect for Zebra crossing saying this has mostly been observed when school going children are crossing the City streets heading or retiring from schools. He says it always takes efforts of well-wishers who help these children by raising flags.
He has appreciated such individuals for their commitment to ensuring road safety especially Ivan Tibaijuka Araali who stages at Hoima Central police stage for his continued support to the school children to help them cross the road warning reckless riders and drivers who do not respect zebra crossings risk being arrested and prosecuted accordingly
