The leadership of Hoima Regional Referral hospital (HRRH) has decried a high volume of patients seeking services which leaders say continue to overwhelm the facility.
This has been revealed by Dr Ibrahim Bwaga the Acting HRRH hospital director while interacting with a team from the Joe Walker Foundation who have been on a 212 KM road safety awareness walk from Kampala to Hoima City.
Dr Bwga revealed high volumes of patients come from the eight districts that make up Bunyoro on top of Kyankwanzi, Mubende and Kiboga which are located in the Buganda region. Bwaga says other patients come from Democratic Republic of Congo exploiting the porous boarders to get services from the hospital. He also adds that other patients are from the two refugee settlements in the region including Panyadoli in Kiryandongo and Kyangwali in Kikuube district.
Bwaga says these volumes continue to pile pressure on the limited drug stocks and bed capacity currently at the facility as more structures are yet to get complete.
The hospital director also decried the power instablility in the City which has continued to increase the fuel costs being incurred by the facility.
Joseph Beyanga  aka Joe Waker who heads the Joe Walker Foundation said they have chosen to visit the facility to get a situation analysis of the burden the facility is handling out of the increased accident victims. He revealed the region remains battling high numbers of fatalities and injuries due to accidents.
The Joe Walker Foundation team has later visited Hoima Public school in which they have engaged thousands on learners on the effective road safety measures especially crossing the road on zebra crossing and walking from the right side of the road.
