In a bid to find a lasting solution for Hoima Regional Referral hospital load shedding woes, the Ministry of Health has directed Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) to deliver a transformer together with a dedicated power line to support the operations of the facility that attends to more than three million people from Bunyoro districts and parts of Buganda.
Speaking to Spice FM in an exclusive interview, Dr. Ibrahim Bwaga, the Acting hospital director has confirmed the development saying UEDCL has already delivered a 1MVA transformer and a dedicated power line adding that another 0.5 MVA will be delivered to the facility in the coming days.
Dr. Bwaga says as a regional referral hospital, load shedding has remained a challenge in the City, citing power outages at mid-night always posing a very dangerous situation especially given the machines at the facility are very expensive and have to remain powered 24/7.
He says even though the hospital has generators, some of them are not reliable due to breakdown challenges, adding that they are also assessing an option of installing solar power systems as a backup plan.
