Security has been beefed up at the Hoima Magistrates Court in Hoima City as the Court begins hearing an application filed by one of candidates in the recently concluded National Female Youth Member of Parliament race.

Early on Friday, security officers from Police, UPDF and Prisons among other sister agencies were deployed inside and around the Court room with members of the public accorded limited access to the premises.

Diana Kampe who contested on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and lost to the Independent Candidate Mercy Kanyesigye wants the Hoima Chief Magistrates Court to order for a vote recount of all votes cast in a national election held on February 6 at Hoima City stadium in Hoima City.

Represented by lawyers from FACTUM ASSOCIATED ADVOCATES, Kampe had earlier on asked the Returning officer Janepher Kyobutungi who conducted the election and the Secretary to the Electoral Commission to provide certified copies of results form and return form for transmission of results form arising from the concluded election.

In her application, Kampe wants Court to also order for a certificate of vote recount.

Speaking earlier ahead of Court hearing, Kanyesigye who won the election says it is a right of all aggrieved candidates to seek court option saying the youth should remain calm assuring them they are genuine winners and they are determined to defend it.

Kanyesigye is being represented by lawyers Asuman Basalirwa, Kamukama David, Mugisha Nuwagaba and Ivan Lagu.
