The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhirwa, has urged Ugandans to boldly exercise their constitutional right to vote in the 2026 general elections, calling on voters to reject intimidation and participate freely in the democratic process.
Bishop Muhirwa made the appeal on Tuesday while delivering his Christmas message to journalists at his residence in Virika, Fort Portal City. He encouraged citizens to turn up in large numbers on polling days and to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the elections.
// Cue in: “People should recognize…
Cue out: … anybody intimidate you.”//
The Bishop also called on Christians to pray for peaceful national elections scheduled for January next year, asking them to remember all key stakeholders, including candidates for parliamentary and presidential positions, voters, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, government, and the media.
He encouraged all stakeholders involved in the 2026 elections to do their work diligently in order to achieve peaceful, free, and fair elections.
He further cautioned the public against excessive spending during the Christmas season, urging families to remain financially disciplined as schools reopen early next year.
The Bishop also appealed to motorists to observe traffic rules, avoid speeding, and desist from drunk driving, noting that reckless behaviour puts lives at risk.
