Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has called on Ugandans to avoid violence during the campaigns to ensure that the country remains peaceful.

Nabbanja was the chief guest at the launch of the 2026 Tarehe Sita celebrations held at Saza Grounds in Kisoro District.

The 2026 Tarehe Sita commemoration will be hosted in Kabale District, under the theme: “Defending the Gains of the Revolution and Honouring the Sacrifices of the Freedom Fighters: A Call for National Unity, Peace, and Socio-Economic Transformation.”

The UPDF has allocated Shillings 2 billion to support activities and projects across the six districts of Kigezi. These activities include health camps and infrastructure development.
Nabbanja’s appeal followed remarks by Hajji Badru Ssebyala, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, and Huda Oleru Abason, the Minister of State for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs, who urged Ugandans to learn from the suffering of civilians in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and work to preserve peace at home.

Lt Gen Samuel Okiding, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, also noted that Ugandans today face greater danger from alcohol consumption than from insecurity, saying the country is stable, productive, and has motorable roads that support economic activity.

Nabbanja emphasises that rejecting violence and promoting peace through Pan-Africanism and patriotism are key to maintaining stability and fostering national development.

She urged Ugandans to cooperate with the army to safeguard the country and to participate in government programs such as the Parish Development Model and other income-generating initiatives to lift themselves out of poverty.
