A parent in Hoima City is struggling to treat his child who sustained a fractured leg after a violet storm ripped the roof off a classroom and administration block at St Peter and Paul Nursery and Primary school located in Nyakambugu cell in Buhanika, East division.

The incident occurred on November 3, 2025, leaving behind a train of destruction and deep scars to the learning institution started 15 years ago and owned by Abraham Irumba Zzuwa, a businessman in Hoima City.

11 pupils and the school Deputy headteacher Lucy Kyalisiima sustained injuries and all received outpatient treatment except a 12-year-old Owen Akugizibwe who remains hospitalized at Hoima regional referral hospital battling with a broken leg amidst dwindling support in his journey to recovery.

According to Edward Tusiime, the parent to Akugizibwe while speaking to our reporter in an interview says he is running out of the funds to treat his child yet there are several expenses to meet as the child remains hopeful for full recovery.

He claims the school has abandoned him since they last sent him support of UGX 100,000 a few days after they had been admitted. He also reveals the Buhanika Catholic church also sent him support of UGX 100,000 however all the funds were used up, and he is stuck with his son at the facility.

Tusiime, who is a peasant says he no longer goes for work at his farms since he is single handediy attending to the child while at the hospital bed and now requests the school, the church, well-wishers to come to his rescue and offer support to his son’s treatement.

Lucy Kyalisiima, the school deputy headteacher who also sustained injuries says the disaster left them devastated and they have been offering support to all pupils who sustained injuries including Akugizibwe whom she says they have been able to offer support after two visits at the facility wondering why the parent says he has been abandoned.
