President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched the second phase of the 4-acre model farming system for the Bunyoro sub-region.

Presiding over the launch at Tingira Cell in Nalweyo Town Council, Kakumiro District, Museveni applauded the people of Bunyoro for embracing the system, which he said has enabled many families to enhance their household incomes.

The second phase will be rolled out in Hoima, Buliisa, Masindi, Kikuube, and Kiryandongo districts, following the first phase that covered Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kibaale, and Hoima City.

Museveni noted that the farming model advocates for land diversification: one acre for coffee, another for fruit trees, the third for staple crops for household consumption, and the fourth for pasture.

He added that farmers can also integrate poultry, piggery, and fish farming to boost household incomes and lift families out of poverty.

The president urged leaders in Bunyoro to mobilise residents to embrace government wealth creation programs, stressing that wealth creation is crucial in driving Uganda’s development.

He emphasized that transformation must begin at the grassroots level and called on leaders to sensitise citizens about initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). Museveni described the PDM as a game-changer helping Ugandans shift from subsistence farming to a money economy.

He warned beneficiaries to safeguard funds and hold implementers accountable.

He further cited key government investments in Bunyoro, including oil road infrastructure, which he said residents should leverage for business and improved household incomes.

Museveni reiterated his call for commercial agriculture, saying Uganda cannot achieve socio-economic transformation while citizens remain stuck in subsistence farming.

Kakumiro LC5 Chairperson Joseph Sentayi urged the government to tarmac the Nalweyo–Kisiita–Mpasana–Nkoko road, which he said is vital for transporting produce to markets. He also appealed for the elevation of Kisiita Town Council to district status.

Bishop Jacob Ateirweho of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese commended the government for infrastructure projects such as oil roads, Kabalega International Airport, and rural electrification. He also called on the government to ensure free and peaceful elections.
