Innocent Turyahikayo, a member of Democratic Party (DP) has withdrawn from contesting for the Member of Parliament for Masindi Municipality in the 2026 general elections.

While addressing the media on Monday at Albertine Palace Gardens in Masindi Town, Turyahikayo said he decided to withdraw from the race due to the encumbrances they are facing in the party but noting that he remains a party member.

He also cited monetization of politics stressing that it has hindered the majority of the youth from contesting or taking up elective positions like the district chairperson and the Member of Parliament since they lack funds.

Turyahikayo clarified that he has not been forced or bribed to withdraw from the race but due to the ongoing encumbrances in the party, he has decided to withdraw from the party.

The politician has also appealed to the electorates to be mindful when participating in the general elections by voting leaders who are corrupt free so that they can account for their taxes.

So far four people have picked interest to contest for Member of Parliament Masindi Municipality and they include; Joab Businge on FDC ticket and the incumbent, Vincent Tumwesige on Independent ticket, Rogers Byamukama on NRM ticket.
