The official opening of the new UGX2.5 billion Hoima city slaughterhouse which was set for September 1, 2025, has been postponed to Thursday this week.
This was disclosed by the City Mayor Brian Kaboyo while speaking to Spice FM on Monday evening.
On August 19, 2025, City authorities led by the Hoima city RCC Hajji Badru Mugabi said the current slaughterhouse in Kiryatete would be closed by August 31 and all butchers were ordered to relocate to the new slaughterhouse located in Bulera cell, Hoima East division.
However, when Spice FM visited the old slaughterhouse in Kiryatete on Monday, it was observed that slaughtering activities were still underway raising questions over the earlier plans by the city.
Julius Ayesiga, one of the butchers revealed that on Saturday when they took their animals to the new slaughterhouse in Bulera cell, they were blocked from accessing the facility.
Robert Kanusu, the Hoima East deputy RCC said that the contractor has not yet handed over the facility to the city council.
Now responding over the matter, Brian Kaboyo, the city mayor says that the postponement of the official opening to Thursday this week is as a result of the absence of the Hoima RCC Hajji Badru Mugabi who is supposed to officiate the opening of the new facility.
