The Hoima Regional Blood Bank is now collecting 2,800 blood units monthly, a significant increase from the previous 600 units collected by the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service’s Bunyoro branch.

The UGX 6.8Billion regional blood bank was established by the Ministry of Health at Kasingo in Hoima City to reduce deaths caused by blood shortages in the Bunyoro Sub region.

Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee and Member of Parliament for Hoima West Division, on Monday visited the blood bank to oversee its activities.

He appreciated the government for establishing the facility and urged the people of Bunyoro to donate more blood.

Ruyonga said the government’s mission is to reduce deaths due to blood shortages to zero and advised the public to be vigilant in preventing diseases that require blood transfusions.

The blood bank’s increased capacity has met the region’s demand, according to officials.
