Candidates contesting for various positions in Hoima City are struggling with obtaining genuine voters’ signatures required by the Electoral Commission with some of their supporters missing out in the National Voters’ register.

As the electoral commission prepares for the nomination exercise for candidates contesting on various local government positions will start on Wednesday in Hoima City and Hoima district across the country, a number of candidates have been visiting the commission offices in Kijungu for verification of their forms including the signatures of their supporters.

However, it has turned out the electoral commission system is rejecting some of the voters after finding out they do not belong in the respective electoral areas, which has pushed some of the candidates to go back to the field to look for genuine signatures.

Agnes Kiiza who is contesting for female councillor for Hoima West C to Hoima west division says some NINs of the voters are missing in the voters’ register which she says is as a results of the voters failing to turn up for the update exercise early this year.

Kiiza says she has been forced to return to the field to collect genuine voters’ and has advised fellow contestants to verify the signatures they are obtaining from the field to avoid getting challenges during the nominations.

Mahad Ronald Mugisa a contestant for Hoima West mayoral seat have advised the electoral division to do more voter education regarding the multiple signings for various candidates

Hassan Takwana the returning officer for Hoima district says candidates need to be extra careful while uploading the voters’ NINs on their forms to ensure that they are approved by the commission.
