Commercial Motorcycle operators have been urged to increase vigilance due to rising motorcycle theft in Kagadi district.
The call was made by the chairperson of the boda boda riders in Kagadi district Amuza Ategeka, during an interview with Spice FM On Saturday.
He says that thieves targeting motorcycles are using new techniques of spraying Chloroform substance to the riders in foods and drinks, hours later the victims become unconscious and lose their motorcycles to the robbers.
Ategeka urges motorists to lay strategies of protecting their motorbikes from theft especially ahead of the upcoming festive season that comes along with an escalation in theft cases.
He says that during such festive seasons the riders face a challenge of motorcycle theft where some people pose as passengers and assault motorcyclists before stealing their motorcycles.
Ategeka advises them to lay strategies on how to deal with security challenges faced, advising them to use anti-theft devices like disc locks and alarms, park in visible and secure locations, and consider GPS trackers to deter thieves and recover stolen bikes.
Ategeka also raises concern over alcoholism and substance use among riders that make them drunk and sleep at their stages, abandoning their motorcycles for the robbers to grab.
He also advises bodaboda riders to stop working at night stressing that they should not focus on the money but on their safety.
