Police in Hoima City have impounded 11 heads of suspected stolen cattle in their escalated efforts to tame animal theft in the area.
Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine South Police Spokesperson while speaking to the press at Hoima Central Police station premises on Sunday disclosed that, the impounded cattle were found on streets of Hoima city in the wee hours of Sunday morning and were taken to CPS as investigations get underway.
Hakiiza added that the heads of cattle are believed to have been stolen from Kakumiro district adding that this makes a total of 12 head cattle currently at police station premises, since another cow was impounded last Thursday. He has called upon individuals who have lost their animals to check with the police station with proof of evidence.
He has called upon village Chairpersons issuing movement permits to be so vigilant to avoid falling prey of the thieves’ tricks since cattle theft is on the rise in the region.
He also warned those who go to police claiming ownership of cattle after police announcements but with no case number (reference numbers) saying thieves also use such tricks in an attempt to steal animals from police.
