Masindi School of Handicapped Grappling with Dilapidated Structures

Masindi School of handicapped in Bikonzi Sub County, Bujenje County, Masindi district is currently grappling with dilapidated structures in which government of Uganda is being called upon to give special attention to these institutions known for playing a crucial role of offering education services.

This was disclosed by Zainabu Akugizibwe, the School headteacher during the donation of items worth UGX20M delivered by Flobbeto Nursery and Primary School Hoima over the weekend.

Akugizibwe said though Masindi district local government rehabilated the girls’ dormitory, most classes are leaking and in poor state.

She also highlighted other challenges which include; fencing the school premises, inadequate infrastructure, some classrooms lack ramps, lack of security lights and government doesn’t support staff wages.

Oliver Asiimwe, the district education officer in charge of special needs acknowledged the challenges the school is facing stressing that though the district budgets for funding, they lack resources.

She however said the district plans to include budget every financial year for the rehabilitation the structures and fencing off the school premises which will be done gradually.

Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha, the Bujenje County MP also acknowledged the challenges stressing that the government has not well supported schools of the special needs in the country.

He however said as the legislators, they agitate for special funding of these schools.

Ambrose Otim the deputy headteacher in charge of Administration at Flobbeto primary school disclosed that the charity is part of the Schools Corporate Social responsibility aimed at instilling the spirit of giving and helping the needy adding that there’s need to support the such schools for the Handicapped.

Established in 1985 as a community school, Masindi School of handicapped has an enrolment of 185 pupils, 95 girls and 88 boys with 18 support staff.
