Engineer Jonard Asiimwe, a candidate vying for the position of Vice Chairperson Western Region under the Central Executive Committee, has expressed concern over the growing commercialization of politics, which he believes is undermining an effective democratic process in the politics of the country.
He was speaking during a press conference at his home in Kabale-Kisweeka, in Hoima East division. Hoima City on Saturday afternoon.
According to Asiimwe, the emphasis on money in politics is leading to the election of individuals who lack the necessary capacity to lead, while capable leaders without financial resources are being left behind.
Asiimwe’s remarks have come ahead of the upcoming CEC elections slated for August 27-28 at the Kololo Independence grounds, where he hopes to see a more leveled ground saying a harmonization meeting is due on August 12 with Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman before the elections can be held.
He has urged leaders to prioritize mentoring the young generation over seeking multiple leadership positions emphasizing the need for leaders to avoid greediness and focus on grooming the young generation and development of the people.
He urged party members to avoid fighting each other and instead work together, emphasizing that the CEC election requires diplomats with high thinking capacity.
Asiimwe has cautioned fellow leaders against fighting and pulling down those who have leadership potential emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation among leaders, particularly in the political arena.
