The Hoima grade one magistrate court has on Wednesday charged and remanded Wilson Kiiza, who runs a business of selling tomatoes and onions at Duhaga Round about street market over poisoning his four children over unknown reasons.
Kiiza, 45, appeared before the Grade One Magistrate Juliana Kimono who charged him with five counts including three for murder of Happy Atugonza, Wilson Asinguza and Solomon Asaba. He was also charged two other counts of attempted murder of Precious Aheebwa and himself.
During the court session, the state prosecutor, Chrispus Naloda, requested an adjournment since investigations into the cases are still ongoing.
Kimono later adjourned the case and remanded Kiiza to Kiryateete Government Prison until August 27, 2025 when he will appear again in court.
Last Saturday the mother of the children, three of whom are now deceased, Lucia Tuhaise, narrated that Kiiza approached her requesting to take the children to visit their grandfather Solomon Basiima whom they have taken more than two years without meeting in Ngogoma village, Kinogozi parish, Buhimba Sub County in Kikuube district.
However, when he reached in the village, he allegedly took them to a banana plantation and duped them into taking medicine for cough which was in form of grinded tablets mixed in water and later gave them bottles of soda to drink.
However, after a few minutes, the children began to feel unwell and made calls for help. Locals joined by their leaders rushed them to Hoima regional referral hospital for treatment where three of them were pronounced dead while Precious Aheebwa is positively responding to medication.
