Fire Guts Shops in Hoima City

Fire has gutted a commercial building in Hoima city destroying property worth millions of Shillings.

The fire broke out around 2p.m. on Sunday in a commercial building housing several businesses in Kiryatete a suburb of Hoima city. The commercial structure was housing both wholesale and retail shops.

Rogers Kusiima, a neighbor says that, they had a loud blast from one of the shops that was followed by huge flames. They immediately alerted the police fire and rescue services that rushed to put out the fire.

Beatrice Agondeze, also a resident says, some residents attempted to put off the fire using water in vain.

Jackson Wobusobozi, another resident explains that, he saw huge flames emerging from behind the commercial building after a loud blast.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson says, the fire brigade and rescue team rushed and contained the fire adding that there were investigating the cause of the fire.
