More than 121,000 individuals in Hoima City, Kikuube and Hoima districts have already renewed their National Identity Cards (IDs), out of a total of 237,890 IDs which are expected to expire in December 2025 indicating a 50% of all IDs that have been renewed.
This has been disclosed by Ms. Evelyn Kiiza, the Head- NIRA Hoima Branch in an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday evening.
Kiiza says the six-month exercise is moving on well across all registration centers established in the City and the two districts for the one and half months covered since the exercise began on May 27.
Kiiza says the IDs said production of the National IDs has also commenced and last week alone they have received cards of IDs of those who renewed in the first weeks of the exercise adding that the picking of these documents will kick off next week.
She now says their focus is now on new registrations with the target on children in primary schools across the three local governments.
She has disclosed that starting with this week, every Thursday and Friday, they will be registering children in schools to ensure they all get NINs.
She says parents or guardians or blood relatives with an ID should be present at the school as the child gets registered.
