Two people were arrested following clashes that erupted on Tuesday afternoon in Buswekera cell, Kihukya ward in Hoima West division between two rival camps.
The Clash involved supporters of two political candidates Donald Bategeka and Dr. Joseph Ruyonga as the later was addressing his supporters ahead of the July 17 primaries.
Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine regional police spokesperson told Spice FM on Tuesday that during a public address by Ruyonga, a group allegedly supporting Donald Bategeka attempted to disrupt the event by removing a microphone resulting into clashes.
Hakiiza said witnesses’ account revealed that the fight was between Businge Robert and another individual known as Mutooro who attempted to remove the microphone, while Mugisa Amad intervened to rescue Businge Robert.
Hakiiza has revealed that they have arrested the two individuals Businge Robert who is a supporter of Donald Bategeka and Mugisa Amad who is a supporter of Dr. Ruyonga.
He says that later the Division Police Commander (DPC) was guided to summon the two candidates for dialogue and ensure the safety and security of campaign platforms.
The Albertine region police spokesperson has now urged political candidates to refrain from violent campaigns, which may lead to arrest, and instead promote peace and mutual respect for each other during the electoral process.
