A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening at Kyabasara Primary School in Pachwa Sub- County, Kagadi District, when lightning struck during a heavy downpour, killing one pupil and injuring eight others.
The deceased has been identified as Mary Atugonza, a Primary Seven pupil.
The incident happened while pupils were attending evening lessons, caught unaware by the sudden storm.
Those injured were quickly rushed to Kyabasara Health Centre III, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
Everest Mujobe, the school’s security guard (askari), recounted the terrifying moment the lightning bolt hit the school compound.
Survivors at the health facility also shared their ordeal with our reporter expressing fear and pain but were grateful to be alive.
Meanwhile, Bangirana Benon, the LC1 Chairperson of the area confirmed the incident and stated that the police have been informed and are investigating the matter.
