NRM Candidates Cautioned Against Use of Abusive Language

The NRM Chairperson for Hoima City Engineer Jonard Asiimwe has cautioned leaders within the party structures against taking sides with specific candidates in the upcoming party primaries.

During a harmonization meeting held at the NRM office in Lusaka Middle on Thursday, Eng. Asiimwe has emphasized that all candidates are part of the same family and should be treated equally warning that any leader found in the act will face punishment.

Ms. Sarah Kobusinge, the party city registrar has explained that party guidelines dictate that all candidates vying for positions such as MPs, Mayors, and district chairpersons are required to participate in joint campaign rallies adding that the guidelines also instruct that campaign meetings be held between 10 AM and 6 PM starting Monday, with four rallies scheduled per day.

Kobusinge highlighted that the party will not tolerate sectarianism based on tribe or religion. She noted that making false statements against a candidate, delivering sectarian speeches, and engaging in blackmail are all prohibited by the party.

Meanwhile, aspirants have expressed concerns over Joint Campaign rallies. Princess Diana Mugenyi, a Woman MP aspirant in the city has expressed disagreement with the joint rallies, citing potential distractions and the risk of being embarrassed by opponents.

Violet Kiberu Kabasindi, the incumbent Flagbearer Woman Member of Parliament Hoima city welcomed the idea of joint campaign rallies saying it is a sign of unity and organization of the party.

Donald Bakire Bategeka, the Hoima west MP aspirant welcomed the idea of joint campaign rallies and advised his supporters to maintain peace and not be involved in violence during the rallies saying security will arrest anyone caught in violence.

Meanwhile, Joseph Ruyonga, the MP for Hoima West County, questioned whether sufficient security measures are in place to control large crowds.
