Hoima district leaders have called for consorted efforts towards protecting the environment and sustainable natural resources utilization in the district.
This was during a meeting on natural resources and environment protection held on Thursday at Buseruka sub county headquarters.
During the meeting, Joselyn Nyangoma presented a template of critical environment and natural resources issues which need attention in Hoima district. These according to Nyangoma range from wetland degradation, pollution, illegal charcoal production,sand mining and the unpredictable climate change.
The Chief Administrative Officer Emmanuel Ssempala noted that leaders need to come together and work collectively towards environmental protection through ensuring sustainable use.
Ssempala has emphasized the need for provision of timely reports well furnished with data for proper intervention and enforcement where necessary.
Micheal Kyakashari the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC) committed to providing necessary support in enforcement of all environment laws also supporting sensitization drives for creation of public awareness.
He says, failure to protect the environment may lead to catastrophic disasters to people’s lives.
Hellen Mulumba the LCV Vice Chairperson said the leaders are ready to work with the technocrats in ensuring that the environment is protected.
