A scuffle ensued over the weekend in Kibugubya trading centre in Kyabigambire sub county in Hoima district between supporters of the Incumbent District Woman MP Harriet Businge Mugenyi and those of Aspiring candidate Susan Asiimwe resulting into cases of assault, injuries and destruction of property. Some of the injured include Raymond Atugonza and another only known as Rais.
Information obtained by Spice FM reveals that Businge had organized a football tournament for the entire sub county with the games played at Kibugubya primary school playground. However Supporters of Susan Asiimwe are said to have also camped at Kibugubya trading centre with their public address system.
However later in the day a scuffle ensued as supporters of Susan Asimwe led by one only identified as Mr Update and another only known as Mohammed allegedly attacked the supporters of Businge who were set to welcome their candidate in their area to officiate at the tournament where games were already underway. This resulted into some of the supporters sustaining injuries as well as destruction of wind screens of one of the cars belonging to Businge’s supporters.
Raymond Atugonza one of the affected supporters revealed they sustained wounds through the beatings inflicted on them adding that this is not the way to go for politics in the district and the interference in their organized activities was uncalled for.
Harriet Businge the District Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima condemned the acts of violence especially the Kibugubya incident where she says some of her supporters were badly injured yet the football tournament was well known by all football stakeholders and the district security committee.
Businge has noted that participants in the upcoming elections in the district should desist from engaging in harmful and risky politics that involve fighting, adding that politics of segregation based on religion, area of origin, tribe among others has since been phased out in the district.
However, Susan Asiimwe whose team is being accused of attacking Businge’s supporters has denied knowing such claims adding that those promoting such could be aimed at seeking sympathy support.
A case of assault and malicious damage was reported under reference number SDR /13/21/06/2025 at Hoima Police station.
Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the incident adding that investigations were underway.
