In the way of preparing Ugandans to benefit from the oil and gas developments in the Albertin graben, 30 Bunyoro Kingdom youth have been awarded with certificates after completing training in operating heavy equipment and machines.
The youth who were passed out this afternoon in Hoima town at D’place hotel have been undergoing a one-month training by ZETTA Energy Uganda and sponsored by China National Offshore Oil Company LTD Uganda (CNOOC).
Eric Daniel Jumba the CNOOC National Content Manager said trainees were selected from different district of Bunyoro so that they can be able to provide labor and services in the sector.
He says that because of the training and empowering youth Kingfisher oil development has been able to employee 2000 people and 80% are Ugandans.
He says that the training is one of the company’s commitments to enhance National content development through developing skills and capacity of Ugandans especially those from Albertin graben.
He noted that 800 youth Applied for the training but only 30 applicants were successful.
Speaking on the behalf of the kingdom prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga, Moses Atuha the kingdom tourism officer commended CNOOC for investing the Skilling among the kingdom subjects.
He also advised the youth not only to wait to get employment opportunities from oil and gas sector but they should use the skills they acquired to start their own jobs
Annette Kemirembe one of the beneficiaries from Hoima city expressed excitement about the training saying that it is going to help her to get job opportunity in the oil sector.
She noted that the training was a great chance since she lacked financial capacity to pursue such training.
