Hoima City Council Pass Waste Management Ordinance to Keep the City Clean

Hoima City council has passed a waste management ordinance which is aimed at effective garbage management in the City.

The Ordinance tasks dwellers to actively play a role in garbage management where they will contribute for the volumes of garbage they produce from their places of abode and businesses among others

The Ordinance was brought for a second reading by Hon Sylvia Nalumaga Balyesiima, the City deputy mayor during a council sitting at HB hotel on Thursday. The Ordinance was seconded by Hon male division councilors to the City Idd Magezi and Omumwoli Joshua Byenkya.

The Councilors unanimously adopted and passed the ordinance where Hon Nalumaga noted that they will first carry out intensive sensitization before they can implement it.

Nalumaga has noted that under ordinance, City dwellers will pay for their garbage under the polluter pay system.

Joshua Byenkya, the male councillor for Hoima West division says the City has struggled to keep the ensure hygiene and sanitation and this ordinance is a magic bullet to ensure a lasting solution.

Idd Magezi, the Male councillor for Hoima West division says the ordinance will help the city in managing the garbage because the available trucks and other resources have not been enough to collect all the garbage in time.
