Cheptegei to Participate in Antrim Coast Half Marathon

Ugandan long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has announced his participation in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in Northern Ireland.

The Olympic and a three-time world champion in 10,000 metres, has commenced preparations in Kapchorwa under the guidance of his Dutch coach Addy Ruiter ahead of the event slated for Sunday, August 24.

Cheptegei, who recently participated in the 2025 Tokyo marathon with a new marathon personal best time, says he chose to go Antrim Coast Half Marathon, for it is an essential part of his preparation for another Full marathon, which he announced after August.

“Since I transitioned to a marathon career, I need to run more half marathons, for it will help me gain more endurance, said Cheptegei. He added, “very excited” to make his debut in the event.

Addy Ruiter, Cheptegei’s training coach, notes that their current training program emphasises speed endurance, to optimize the athlete’s performance in upcoming marathon competitions.

Apart, from preparing for marathon, Cheptegei will also be vying for race top prize of USD 30,000 and the appearance of USD 15000.
