The Office of the Prime Minister has donated 20 dairy cows to farmers in Kagadi district to boost livestock production and support economic empowerment.
The cows were on Wednesday delivered by the state minister for Bunyoro affairs Janepher Namuyangu Kacha at the Kagadi district headquarters.
Namuyangu says the prime minister’s office donated a total of 150 diary heifers to the farmers in Bunyoro sub-region with Kagadi receiving 20 cows under the government’s broader initiative of increasing diary production and supporting economic growth in the region.
While addressing the beneficiaries, she reminded them that the cows, once they calve, will begin producing milk, providing a reliable income source if well cared for.
She advised them to follow veterinary guidance on vaccination and treatment to ensure the health and productivity of the animals.
The Kagadi district veterinary officer, Dr. Ruben Kawaga emphasized the need for proper care and management of the heifers to improve livestock production.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries have commended the NRM government for the support and promised to provide better care to the livestock to realize economic benefits.
