Shock on Monday morning engulfed residents of Bwikya cell in Kinubi after unknown thugs attacked one resident, hit him with a hammer on the head multiple times leading to his death.
The deceased has been identified as Farouk Mwogezi Mirundi believed to be in his 30s, a manson who hails from Sembabule district.
By the time the incident happened, Mwogezi’s wife was away to Kooki-Haibale for pilgrimage while their three children were residing at a friend’s home.
Neighbors of the deceased allege that Mwogezi could have been beaten from somewhere else and just brought to his room where he was renting in Bwikya cell.
Julius Kasangaki, a neighbor says at around 4pm they heard Mwogezi scream from room in pain.
Sam Bigabwenkya, the Bwikya Cell LC 1 Chairperson condemned the act saying that the deceased had no wrangles with anyone.
Idi Magezi, the Hoima east division councilor, is urging security in the city to intensify night patrols to curb such acts.
Ronald Muhoofa, the Hoima east division community liaison officer has assured residents that the police will investigate the murder to ensure the thugs are arrested.
By press time, police were carrying out a postmortem on the body at the crime scene.
