The Ministry of Bunyoro Affairs under the Office of Prime Minister (OPM) has launched the distribution of 150 hybrid heifers to beneficiaries in Bunyoro Sub Region.
Presided over by the Minister State for Bunyoro Affairs, Jenifer Namuyangu Kacha, the launch took place at Kiryandongo district headquarters on Thursday.
While speaking at the launch, Minister Namuyangu said that the initiative intends to uplift the people from poverty through socio-economic empowerment.
She encouraged beneficiaries to look after these heifers through providing water, food, shelter and treatment adding that they are looking at beneficiaries as the future source of stock in the region.
Edith Aliguma, the Kiryandongo district LCV Chairperson welcomed the distribution stating that as leaders they will follow up to the heifers to improve the livelihood of beneficiaries.
Hassan Byenkya Issa, the Kiryandongo district production officer said distribution of the heifers is supplementing other government programs such as coffee growing, fish farming, PDM among others which were initiated to improve household income.
Jonathan Akweteireho, the Kiryandongo Deputy RDC warned beneficiaries against selling these heifers. He said they would follow these animals in their homes to ensure they are not sold.
Beneficiaries who spoke to our reporter applauded the government for distributing the heifers stating that they would improve on their livelihood.
