The Hoima district woman Member of Parliament Hon Harriet Businge Mugenyi has implored oil companies operating in Bunyoro region to involve local leaders on deciding the nature of social corporate responsibility (CSR) activities that are extended in the area.

Mugenyi made the call during the belated commemorations of the World Press Freedom Day organized by Hoima Media SACCO in partnership wing CNOOC Uganda for greater Hoima journalists at HB Hotel on Sunday evening.

Mugenyi said there is need to make the citizenry part of decision makers on the kind of CSR to be provided by oil companies in order for more locals from the support being extended.

She added oil and gas companies have already made great strides in the area in terms of corporate social responsibility activities however there are some more critical issues where these companies can always come in only if they allowed the local leaders in the area to have a say and contribute in decision making. She added that social corporate responsibility is out of goodwill from these companies but also an entitlement for the locals in their areas of operation.
