As Uganda joins the rest of the world to Mark the International Labour Day, employers in Hoima City have been called on to work towards compensating their employees who get accidents on the line of duty as one way of improving their welfare.
The Labour Day is commemorated every year to highlight the significance of honouring workers and advocating for improvement of their working conditions, their rights and the fair labour practices.
However Speaking to Spice FM this morning, the Hoima City workers’ councilors have called on employers to work towards improving the welfare of their workers.
Mr. Patrick Mugabi, the Male workers’ councilor says, there is need for employers and bosses to ensure they compensate their employees, especially, when accidents happen at places of work thereby calling for respect of rights of employees mostly at construction sites, factories among others.
Mugabi has also called on workers to join labour unions which he says have higher bargaining powers to fight for their rights and general welfare.
Ms. Jackline Bacwa the female workers’ councilor has urged for timely and fair payments for workers and challenges both employers and employees to show respect for each other.
The National commemorations are underway at Nakaale Grounds in Nakapiripiriti District, under the theme “Consolidating on the Gains of the Parish Development Model (PDM) for Increased Productivity and Inclusive Job Creation.
