Residents of Isaka Lower Cell, in Hoima East City Division have maintained on their demand for an alternative road before the management of Hoima Regional Referral Hospital can proceed to develop the land where the current road passes.

This was revealed on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the hospital premises during a public baraza organised by the health facility.

Wilberforce Musinguzi, the chairman LCI Isaka Lower Cell while representing the residents demanded that the hospital ensures locals have at least an access road that to their homes.

Dr. Ibrahim Bwaga, the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital acting director explains that they want to use the land in question to construct a 54-bed general ward to decongest the hospital amidst limited space after the demolishment of the old maternity ward.

It will be remembered that the old maternity ward was demolished by the hospital management to construct a modern storied building that will house a maternal, neonatal and gynaecology ward. However, the works have stalled due to lack of funds.

Dr. Bwaga discloses that the construction work needs Sh33 billion and only Sh1.15 billion was sent to the hospital account noting that this amount could not even put up the foundation of the building.

He says the only place where the general ward can be constructed is where the road heading to Isaka lower cell is located.

Dr. Bwaga has rallied the locals to support the developments at the facility or else the region risks missing out on key projects adding that they will continue engaging the key stakeholders on the way forward of solving the current issues.
