The Panyimur Wanseko ferry route has been temporarily closed to all traffic due to mechanic defects, the ministry of works and transport has revealed.

According to the statement released by the ministry on Wednesday, the defects have been identified on the Albert 1 ferry adding that the repairs are underway to ensure safety.

The Ministry has however provided alternative routes which travelers can use that include Murchison Falls National Park to Masindi to Kampala or via Murchison Falls National Park to Buliisa to Hoima to Kampala.

The suspension of the the ferry services on Panyimur-Wangseko is likely to has also affected affected the transport cost and the price of foodstuffs to increase in Panyimur, as traders from Buliisa District, who access the Panyimur market via ferry, faced higher transportation costs.
